Survey: Most Germans doubt whether immigration will be reduced


The vast majority of Germans doubt that the federal and state governments will be able to limit immigration to Germany.

Berlin - In a survey by the Forsa Institute for the broadcasters RTL and ntv, only 23 percent of those surveyed said they believed in a significant reduction. However, the vast majority (75 percent) do not believe this. There is also a proposal to grant asylum seekers and refugees who have the prospect of a long-term stay in Germany a regular work permit more quickly than before so that they can pursue normal, paid employment - 87 percent of them German citizens think this is correct, eleven percent are against it.

Another proposal envisages requiring asylum seekers who have no prospect of a long-term stay in Germany but are still tolerated to do charitable work in the city or municipality - this proposal is also supported by a large majority German citizens (76 percent) accept it, 20 percent do not think such an obligation is right. 1,009 people were interviewed for the survey on October 13th and 16th.
