Berlin: Salafist hate-preacher took 18,000 euros from coronavirus help

BERLIN. The Salafist preacher and IS supporter, Ahmad Abul Baraa, is suspected of having snatched 18,000 euros in immediate Corona aid. The 46-year-old was being watched by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and was considered a threat, said the spokesman for the Berlin Attorney General, Martin Steltner .

The suspect had made common cause with his life partner and incorrectly claimed to have a honey business, reports Bild. This gave him the money from the subsidies that had been paid to him even though he was receiving social assistance. The money was therefore secured on Thursday during an apartment search.

The Salafist is observed by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and classified as a threat. In his sermons in a Berlin mosque, he called on people to stay away from “unbelievers”. He prayed for the killing of Allah's enemies and advised to treat Islam-critical voices with "hatred and enmity".
