Germany: Seehofer warns of "high threat level"

Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) believes that the threat situation in Germany after the knife attack in Wüzburg remains high.

Berlin - "We have been pointing out the high level of threats from all forms of extremism and terrorism for many months," he told the Augsburger Allgemeine. He did not want to terrify people, "but we must not downplay the dangers either," added Seehofer. "We live in an alarm situation, our security and our democracy are threatened from several sides."

He warned against weighing one danger against the other. "The security authorities had long been fixated on Islamist terrorism in the past, but in fact right-wing extremism was already in full bloom." Islamists, right-wing and left-wing extremists as well as the so-called Reich citizens would contribute to the "alarm situation".

"That got even worse during the pandemic," said the CSU politician.
