Babylon Bee CEO to donate $20,000 to pro-life website cancelled by GoDaddy

Seth Dillon, the CEO of the Christian-themed satirical site The Babylon Bee, announced on Friday that he will donate $20,000 to the Texas pro-life website that allows users to report suspected abortions after GoDaddy terminated its hosting services. Amid the nationwide abortion debate, the site was established in response to a new Texas law that imposes a near-total ban on abortion.

GoDaddy is the world's biggest and most prominent hosting service for domains on the internet. The website in question is prolifewhistleblower.com and is ran by a group called "Texas Right to Life." Terminating the hosting contract Friday, GoDaddy gave the group a mere 24 hours to find a different provider.

According to CNBC, a spokesperson for Texas Right to Life said, "Our IT team is already in process of transferring our assets to another provider and we'll have the site restored within 24-48 hours. Come back soon."

The Babylon Bee itself has been no stranger to controversy in the recent past. The site, which is clearly satirical in nature has been targeted by entities from Facebook to USA Today to even The New York Times on various occasions.

The Texas law, which went into full effect on Wednesday, makes abortions illegal when heartbeats are detected, and allows private citizens to sue another Texan for performing or knowingly aiding and abetting in the performance of an abortion.

The law has had a polarizing effect on Texan society, and indeed in the US as a whole. Rideshare providers Lyft and Uber have united against the new law, offering to fully cover the legal defense fund of any rideshare drivers sued under it.
