Berlin: Surprise visit to Rigaer 94

At 6 o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, 320 Berlin police officers did not yet know where the operation was going to take them. An hour later it was clear: Rigaer Strasse 94, the partially occupied house in Berlin-Friedrichshain. A focal point of left-wing extremist violence: demonstrations, but also attacks on police officers and firefighters, are planned here, the neighborhood is terrorized from here and young people are indoctrinated here - left-wing extremist youth development. And all of this out of the anonymity of the house. That's enough of that!

"Currently, a court-ordered search warrant is being carried out by our emergency services at Rigaer Strasse 94," tweeted the Berlin police at 7.33 am. "We ask all residents: behave calmly, stay in their apartments and follow the instructions of our colleagues."

Officials search 24 apartments...
It is the duty of the officials to determine the personal details of the residents. The owner had managed to do this days ago. Because it is not in the least clear who lives in the house at all. “The colleagues opened the front door with a technical device, then rang the bell and knocked on the apartment doors,” says a police spokeswoman to Junge Freiheit. "We had to force open two of the 24 apartments in the house. So far, 16 people have been identified."

The people encountered must identify themselves. "If you don't have any documents with you to authenticate yourself, we can match your personal details using a Fast-ID." Fast-ID means a quick comparison of fingerprints using a small mobile device, if they are already saved in a file. They must then be deleted again immediately. "If nothing comes of this, we otherwise have the option of identification measures at the office," adds the spokeswoman. But the mission is peaceful.

...and discover a new one on the top floor
For years, the owner has been struggling to clear most of the apartments in the house, the tenants of which moved out years ago, and an illegal bar - a left-wing extremist hot spot - on the ground floor. So far without success. In June there were massive riots in connection with a fire protection inspection. The left-wing extremists have been able to act like this in the neighborhood for 30 years because they have the backing of parts of the left and the Greens in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district assembly.

But this time the commitment for the left-wing extremists comes as a complete surprise. At 8.06 on the Twitter page of the “Rigaer 94” you can read: "Cops are storming our house." They complain: "Without warning, cops from the Berlin police attacked the Rigaers94 today!"

According to Der Tagesspiegel, the officers discovered another apartment and a rifle in the attic of the rear building during the search. The mission was over after five hours.
