Germany's Interior Minister presents a catalog of measures "against the right"

Berlin - Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) has given priority to the fight against right-wing extremism with a ten-point plan. “We act against right-wing extremism and that is a high priority for me. Our democracy is vigilant and defensive,” she emphasized when presenting the catalog of measures on Tuesday.

In concrete terms, for example, the relevant networks are to be broken up and right-wing extremists disarmed. To this end, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution will “significantly expand the investigation and analysis of right-wing extremist financial activities. The aim is in particular to identify and combat essential networks, actors and business areas".

In order to take action against "hate speech on the Internet", the necessary structures are to be further expanded. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) will therefore set up a task force and monitor social media “in order to identify current developments at an early stage”. With regard to the Telegram messenger service, BKA boss Holger Münch said that this would ideally happen with or without the support of the platform.

Victims of right-wing violence should be better helped
Another goal is to remove enemies of the constitution from public service more quickly and easily. That could happen if the Federal Disciplinary Act were changed. Head of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Thomas Haldenwang, underlined this plan. “Here it is necessary to counteract this. Right-wing extremists have no place in public service.”

The measures presented also include improved protection for victims of right-wing extremist violence. According to the will of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the state should treat those affected with sensitivity.

Faeser wants "fight against the right" from kindergarten
Faeser also commented on a possible division in society by taking in the refugees from the Ukraine . “I am sure that the cohesion in our country is currently very strong. The extremists will not be able to get through with their hatred this time either.” The great solidarity with the war refugees shows that.

The minister had previously pointed out the dangers of right-wing extremism and advocated extensive countermeasures. In February, she spoke out in favor of starting the “fight against the right” in kindergarten through educational work.
