Germany: Majority for climate protection financing through taxes


The majority of Germans are in favor of financing climate protection through taxes instead of through debt.

Munich - This is the result of a study by the Munich Ifo Institute, which was published on Thursday. This is based on a survey in which German households were asked about their preferences with regard to financing climate protection measures. Around 66 percent of households are therefore in favor of an increase in the top tax rate.

In second place is a CO2 sales tax with an approval rate of 45 percent. A tax that burdens the winners of climate change (37 percent) and private insurance for possible damage caused by climate change (22 percent) are preferred by significantly less than half of the respondents. The idea of ​​financing climate protection measures through public debt met with the least approval (14 percent).
