Germany spends 22 billion euros on refugees


Berlin - Last year, the federal government made around 21.82 billion euros available for refugee and integration costs. This emerges from a briefing sent by the Federal Ministry of Finance to the German Bundestag on Monday, which Junge Freiheit was made aware of in advance. In 2020 it was 22.5 billion euros. Because of the high number of refugees from Ukraine, the amount is likely to increase further in the future.

In the area of ​​refugee and integration costs, the federal government made around 3.02 billion euros (previous year 3.7 billion euros) available to the federal states and municipalities. The largest item of this was costs for accommodation with heating in the amount of 1.6 billion euros (unchanged compared to the previous year).

350 million euros were paid as a lump sum for unaccompanied minor refugees. In addition, in 2021 the federal government carried further expenditure of 18.8 billion euros (unchanged compared to the previous year), in which the federal states did not participate. Around 9.8 billion euros of this went to combating the causes of flight.
