Survey: The majority of Germans can imagine using digital ID documents in the future

Berlin - This is the result of a survey by the IT industry association Bitkom, which was published on Monday. Specifically, 60 percent of citizens are considering loading a so-called "digital identity wallet" onto their smartphone. However, a good third (35 percent) are skeptical about the ID wallet.
The main focus here is on aspects of trust and security. 63 percent of those who do not want to use the wallet are concerned about third parties misusing their data. 57 percent have concerns about security and 53 percent are concerned about privacy of the application.

Other reservations revolve around the concern of failure in practical application. 30 percent of those who do not want to use an ID wallet are afraid of doing something wrong. According to their own assessment, 24 percent do not have a suitable device, such as a technically very up-to-date smartphone.

In their opinion, 20 percent know too little about digital ID's. A fifth of those who do not want to use a digital wallet (21 percent) justify it with the expectation that it will not really work in practice. For the survey, Bitkom Research telephoned 1,004 people aged 16 and over in Germany.
