Anti-Semitism at Documenta: Accusations of lying against Claudia Roth

Kassel - Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth (Greens) and exhibition director Sabine Schormann have fallen out over the question of who is responsible for the anti-Semitism scandal at the Documenta. Now the argument continues to escalate. One of them tells the untruth.

The Documenta boss now claims that Roth recommended that she employ the publicist Emily Dische-Becker to clarify the allegations of anti-Semitism before the opening. This went haywire. If Schormann's claim is correct, then Roth would be largely responsible for the debacle. Because her preventive measure didn't work.

But the Greens denied that what Schormann said was "inaccurate". Rather, the use of Emily Dische-Becker was "not a recommendation" from the Minister of State for Culture, "but a decision by the Documenta management," Roth's spokeswoman claimed to Bild.

Only one version can be correct
Both women apparently want to save their heads. Because Schormann contradicts Roth's defense strategy again. The recommendation for Dische-Becker was made by the Federal Commissioner for Culture and Media (BKM) that is, Claudia Roth. This is also confirmed by an e-mail from the authority. In it, Roth's Office of the Documenta suggested three further experts for examining the allegations, which "Ms. Dische-Becker herself had recommended in writing to the BKM three days earlier".

The Documenta boss has thus reinforced the accusation that Roth was lying on the issue. One thing is certain: Emily Dische-Becker belongs to the group of experts who regularly commission Roth's authority to carry out similar tests. But who is lying remains unclear: Claudia Roth or Sabine Schormann?
