Berlin: Despite the ban, the Green Ministry hoists the Progress Pride Flag

Berlin - The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, led by Green politician Lisa Paus, has refused to take down the so-called Progress rainbow flag in front of her ministry and has ignored the ban on flying it at all. The radical version of the symbol of the queer movement has been hoisted there for more than four weeks. According to a decree by the Ministry of the Interior, this is not allowed. The flag is particularly popular among supporters of radical left-wing identity politics.

At the start of the “Christopher Street Day” celebrations on June 28, Paus had the so-called Progress rainbow flag hoisted. At that time, the Ministry of the Interior, led by Nancy Faeser (SPD), had already pointed out in writing that this was forbidden because the flag was not covered by the flag decree. Former Bild editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt uncovered this on his YouTube channel “Achtung, Reichelt!”.

The Progress Pride Flag contains more stripes and a circle in a triangle. It should also stand for the interests of transsexuals and intersexuals, blacks, people of color and all those affected by racism and discrimination. However, it is primarily seen as the symbol of radical left-wing identity politics. This divides people strictly according to characteristics such as sexuality, gender, skin color or ethnicity and derives radical political demands from them.

Ministry of the Interior: hoisting the flag is "unlawful"
Background: On April 6, the Interior Ministry approved the hoisting of the rainbow flag at federal buildings. They were present in front of and on the Reichstag. According to Paus' family ministry, on June 13 it pointed out "that the hoisting of further logo flags cannot be approved".

When asked why this flag was hoisted anyway, the Paus authority said in a statement: "As the Ministry of Equal Opportunities, we are proud to hoist the Progress rainbow flag this year as a sign of special solidarity with all trans and inter-sexual people. With this, the house expresses unmistakably that it stands up for all queer people.” The flag will therefore continue to fly in front of the ministry until this Friday, July 29th.

The Ministry of the Interior calls the hoisting of flags that are not in accordance with the federal government's flag decree "illegal". However, violations have no legal consequences. One simply expects that all departments adhere to the regulations laid down in the decree on flags.
