Boris Johnson resigns

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson resigns as Tory leader. As reported by the British media, he will also step down as prime minister in the autumn. On Wednesday evening, Johnson had ruled out the move and warned of an imminent election defeat for the Tories.

He was "very sad to have to give up the best job in the world", said Johnson on Thursday during a speech outside his office at 10 Downing Street. He was convinced that the future of Great Britain was "golden".

Great Britain is in a serious government crisis. Several ministers and secretaries of state had resigned in protest against Johnson in recent days, including Health Minister Sajid Javid and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak.

Sexual harassment affair brings Johnson down
The reason for the wave of resignations is the affair surrounding Tory MP Chris Pincher. Although Johnson was aware of allegations against Pincher for sexual harassment, he made him Deputy Parliamentary Secretary.

Johnson has been British Prime Minister since July 2019. Before that, he was foreign minister in the cabinet of his predecessor, Theresa May. Under his aegis, the British Kingdom left the European Union.
