Germany: In an unparalleled act of bravery, Edeka renames a vanilla ice cream because of the war in Ukraine

The supermarket chain Edeka has given an ice cream sandwich a new name: Moscow has been crossed out and Kyiv written down.

The sandwich ice cream from Edeka's own brand Gut & Billig is renamed. After the Russian war of aggression, the supplement "Moscow Style" was dropped and replaced by "Kiev Style".

After the Ukraine invasion, many companies withdrew from Russia. German chains, including Edeka, boycotted Russian groceries and banned them from the shelves. The food giant quickly became friendly with Ukraine and supported relief efforts for refugees, according to the website.

War: Edeka creates clear distance to Russia, solidarity to Ukraine
In response to the war, the supermarket chain is now going one step further and giving the “Moscow-style” vanilla ice cream a new name as a sign of solidarity. Not only can the new designation “Kiew Style” be read on the current packaging, the old one has been crossed out demonstratively.

“We are still very concerned about what is happening in Ukraine. It is important to us to continue to express our solidarity and we are convinced that this can also be shown with small gestures," commented the company's spokesman to Northern Bavaria.

However, it may be a while before ice cream lovers can hold the snack in their hands. Edeka explained that the products would only be replaced gradually. In the long term, the frozen dessert will be marketed under the name "Ice Snack Sandwich".
