NASA administrator warns of Chinese space program

The head of the US space agency NASA, Bill Nelson, warns of the Chinese space program.

Washington - "There is a new race to space - this time with China," he told Bild (Saturday edition). Nelson is particularly critical of the Chinese ambitions to have their own moon base. Unlike the US Artemis program, the Chinese are unwilling to share their research and use the moon together.

"We have to be very concerned that China lands on the moon and says: This is ours now and you stay out," Nelson told the Bild. He also warned of the military nature of China's space program. The head of the agency is particularly concerned about the development of weapons capable of knocking out satellites from other countries.

He also lamented Chinese technology theft: "China is good. But China is also good because they steal other people's ideas and technologies."
