Now "right-wing rock concerts" are Germany's new enemies

The number of right-wing extremist music events is increasing again significantly after two years of the corona pandemic.

Berlin - In the first half of 2022, 78 right-wing rock concerts, song recitals and party events were given nationwide with performances by musicians from the right-wing extremist scene, according to a response from the Federal Ministry of the Interior to a request from the Left Group, about which the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung (Thursday edition) reports. That was more than twice as many as in the same period last year with 31. Also in the first half of 2020 only 61 concerts were counted. The number of visitors to these important events of the Nazi scene is also increasing again: there were almost 4,000 visitors in the first half of 2022, compared to less than 800 in the same period of the previous year and 3,000 in 2020. However, the right-wing scene is still far from the standard removed from the pre-corona period.

In 2019, more than 11,000 visitors came to 197 concerts in the first half of the year. The left-wing faction is responsible for the strengthening of right-wing forces in the music scene. Petra Pau, member of the Bundestag, explained: "Unfortunately, the feeling of more relaxed Corona situation is also leading to a revival of the right-wing rock scene. This is a central field for financing and networking the Nazis." Pau called on the Federal Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser (SPD), to increase the pressure on the scene. In contrast, independent demos of the Nazi scene became rarer in the first half of the year - however, the popularity of demos and marches has increased again.

With a good 6,500 participants in the first half of 2022, there were almost twice as many as in the previous year, according to data from the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
