A man tried to assassinate Cristina Kirchner: he pointed a gun at her head

The Argentine authorities have arrested a man who has pointed a gun at the head of the Argentine Vice President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, near her home.

As confirmed by the Argentine government, the detainee is a 35-year-old man of Brazilian origin with a history of illegal possession of weapons, previously arrested last March.

Attempted shot in the crowd
In a live broadcast of the Televisión Pública network, it can be seen how a crowd of people greet the vice president around her house, at which point a person raises a pistol and points it at Fernández de Kirchner 's head.

Gun loaded with five bullets
The Minister of Security, Aníbal Fernández, has detailed that the detained person "had a weapon" and has been detained, initially, "by custody personnel", according to the Télam news agency.

This gun was loaded with five 380-caliber bullets, although for some unknown reason it did not fire when it was fired, according to Ámbito Financiero.

"The most serious event of democracy"
The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, has described the assassination attempt as the "most serious event that has happened" since the return of democracy to the country.

"This attack deserves the strongest repudiation of all political sectors, of all the men and women that make up the republic. These events affect our democracy," he added, assuring that social peace has been disturbed.

Fernández has urged Argentine citizens to recover democratic coexistence broken by hate speech, alluding that "deep disagreements" can be had without engendering violence.
