SPD demands extension of North Rhine-Westphalia deportation ban to Iran

The SPD parliamentary group leader in the Düsseldorf state parliament, Thomas Kutschaty, has called on the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia to extend the ban on deportations to Iran beyond January 7th.

Düsseldorf - "The situation in Iran seems to be coming to a head towards the end of the year. Since October there have also been no improvements for women in Iran," said the opposition leader to the Rheinische Post. So there is no reason to let the deportation ban expire on January 7th.

"On the contrary: Minister Paul is now called upon to ensure immediately that deportations to Iran are suspended until further notice. That is an imperative of humanity." The order issued by NRW refugee minister Josefine Paul (Greens) in November states: "For international law and humanitarian reasons, deportations to Iran are initially suspended until January 7, 2023."

The order does not apply to perpetrators and offenders.
