“Diversity is a Strength”?

Written by John (the other John).

If we examine the preceding approximate 6,000 years of recorded human history, we can analyze how diversity has affected various peoples and nations. Below is my breakdown of possibilities:

No diversity, purity in ethnicity

a. Fiction, genealogically impossible to have a 100% pure society considering migration patterns in the preceding approximate 200,000 years of human history (with recorded history being approximately 6,000 years); but considering the nature of humans (much like the animal kingdom), even in a pure society people would still fight amongst themselves (but less conflict than in diverse nations).

2. Diversity in moderation, very limited
a. Much like bacteria or viruses (or junk food), having these in limited moderation builds up humans’ immunity which only makes them stronger and healthier; being 100% free of bacteria and viruses (or junk food) can result in severe illness or death if/when we are later exposed to bacteria and viruses (or junk food).[1]

3. Diversity in excess results in discrimination and conflict
a. This has been the historical norm in societies with excess diversity; much like in the animal kingdom or plant kingdom, diverse forms of animals and plant life will battle with one another to the death to enhance their own survival (especially when those people, animals, plants are of the invasive/parasitic kind); “otherness” does not bring peace (ex., Rwanda, Yugoslavia, India, Sunni/Shia, downfall of Rome, etc…)

4. Diversity the norm under threat of the sword
a. Under threat of torture and/or death, diverse peoples are forced to live together, otherwise, they will be ki!!ed (Imperial Rome, Ottoman Empire, USSR, Libya, etc…); this requires a vicious tyrant to accomplish this by eliminating all forms of human rights and choices; and even then, the longevity of this form of governing is limited

5. No diversity due to fulfilled genocide
a. Fiction in the modern era as a conclusion, but this has been attempted many times in history when groups of people were murdered en masse in the goal of exterminating them from existence; prior to the modern era, this likely did result in instances in which this goal of eliminating groups of peoples from existence were achieved

So what we can conclude from this is that diversity is not only not a strength, but that diversity is actually a curse/a sub-root cause of grave evil (other than when it is presented in moderation in which it can build up our immunities).

So the next time somebody says that “diversity is our strength”, you can respond by saying “prove it”; the historical evidence says otherwise (and Utopian fantasy does not count as evidence). Or you can say “compared to what”; in other words, if excessive “diversity” is compared to “similarity”, then “diversity” is a proven curse; but if “diversity” is compared to (for example) a meteor the size of the moon hitting the earth at 1 million miles per hour ki!!ing 8 billion people instantaneously, then yes, “diversity is a strength” in this scenario.

1. In the TV show “Married With Children”, there was an episode in which a fitness guru named Jim Jupiter led a perfectly pure life (most notably his eating habits). But after spending a couple days with the Bundy family with him eating junk food with the Bundy’s, Jim Jupiter died of a heart attack because his pure body prevented him from gaining the immunities from junk food itself. If by chance Jim had had some experience of eating unhealthy food in moderation, then he would have had the basic immunities that would have prevented his untimely death. The same principle applies with diversity, in which if a person lives a perfectly pure life, then when/if that person ever meets a “diverse” person then that pure person too may not survive that encounter (i.e., attempt niceties with that person preceding him getting stabbed); but if the person had some experience in moderation with “diverse” people, then that would enhance his/her likelihood of survival (i.e., run away like a motherf’kr).
