Hesse's Prime Minister demands "repatriation offensive"

The Hessian Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) has called on the federal government to clear the way for more deportations.

Wiesbaden - "We need a real repatriation offensive, as announced by the traffic light [coalition government] itself in its coalition agreement," he told the T-Online portal. "With the planned liberalization of citizenship law, the traffic light will create new incentives for immigration to Germany. But we need exactly the opposite."

A more consistent return of people to their homeland who have no right of residence is necessary. "This affects more than 304,000 people in Germany," says Rhein. The CDU politician, while acknowledging that repatriation is the task of the federal states, also said that their hands are practically tied.

As a country, you cannot negotiate with the countries of origin that refuse or complicate the return. "That is the job of the federal government." They had to clarify with the governments there how people could return to their homeland.

"We can only fulfill our duty as federal states if the federal government has fulfilled its duty beforehand," added the Prime Minister.
