Border closures and rejections: Germans increasingly radical

A large majority of Germans are calling for tough action against migrants. Three quarters even want a complete border closure. One age group in particular stands out in this regard.

Berlin - 71 percent of Germans are calling for migrants to be turned away directly at the border. This is the result of a YouGov survey commissioned by the German Press Agency. So far, this has only been the case for foreigners with an entry ban and migrants who do not use the word "asylum" during a possible check.

Contrary to Article 16a of the Basic Law, anyone who enters the country from a safe third country is still allowed to enter the country. Asylum applications in other countries are also not currently accepted as a reason for rejection at the border. The Federal Police have no such instructions.

73 percent in favor of complete border closure
This is probably why three quarters of Germans are in favour of a complete closure of the border to migrants . 45 percent of those surveyed support this measure “completely”, and a further 28 percent see it “rather positively”. Here too, one in five rejects border closures for illegal immigrants.

The approval rate is even higher when it comes to the question of deporting people who do not have the right to remain. 82 percent are in favor of this, 11 percent are against it, and 7 percent have no opinion on the matter.

Those over 60 are particularly vocal in their support for remigration. According to dpa, more than 95 percent of them are in favor of more deportations. There was no East-West difference in the answers to these questions.
