Germany: Greens politician calls for "climate passport" for refugees

Yesterday, the application was already being negotiated in the Bundestag: The Greens want to enable people affected by climate change to "self-determine relocation to safe countries". The “climate passport” would then allows unrestricted access.

The Greens politician and Bundestag Vice President Claudia Roth calls for a "climate passport" for refugees due to the consequences of global warming. This document could "enable those affected to move to safe countries at an early stage - and grant them citizenship-like rights there," said Roth to the RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND).

A corresponding request by the Greens for this was already on the agenda of the Bundestag on Friday afternoon. In the application, the federal government is called upon to become more involved in this matter. "The climate crisis is the cause of migration and flight - especially in the southern hemisphere, which has contributed least to global warming," Roth continued. "Climate protection is therefore a question of global justice." So far, little attention has been paid to this in Germany.
