Switzerland: ISIS militant posing as an asylum seeker arrested
Police said that the Islamic State militant had been living in a home for asylum seekers in the small town of Altstätten before he was transferred to another facility in Kreuzlingen, 20 Minutes reports.
During the time the Islamic State militant spent in Altsätten, other asylum seekers living with him said he would act as though he was the leader of the facility, often shouting out orders to his fellow flatmates. Although some of the asylum seekers objected to the way the alleged IS militant was behaving, nothing was ever done to put an end to it.
It was only after the alleged militant was transferred to Kreuzlingen that multiple migrants told the local authorities that they had recognized the man as a former fighter for the Islamic State. Not long after, authorities were finally convinced after a picture surfaced of the suspect dressed in battle attire.
In 2016, Germany’s spy agency, the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND) warned that the Islamic State was training terrorists on how to embed themselves with groups of asylum seekers looking to enter into Europe.
Last year, such a case surfaced in Hamburg, Germany after one member of a three-man terrorist cell admitted to authorities that the Islamic State had sent him to Germany, telling him to act like he was a refugee.
