Ianos: Three Dead in Thessaly; Widespread Destruction Around the Country
Since it made landfall in Greece on Thursday, the rare Mediterranean hurricane Ianos has caused the deaths of three people in Thessaly and widespread destruction around the country.
In the region of Thessaly, located south of Macedonia, entire towns
were flooded, particularly around Karditsa. Hundreds of residents were
trapped in their homes and vehicles, unable to escape as strong currents
rushed around them.
At least three people have died in Thessaly, including a 62-year-old resident who was trapped in his home after the roof collapsed.
Currently, there are two missing people in the area who authorities fear were carried off by the destructive floodwaters. They include a 43-year-old woman whose empty car has been located, as well as a shepherd from the area.
