Germany: Suspended sentence for 28-year-old Syrian refugee who sexually abused a 14-year-old girl

Saarbrücken: A man was sentenced to a suspended sentence at the Saarbrücken regional court last week. The 28-year-old Attalah A. worked in 2017 on a 450-euro basis at a snack bar on Saarbrücken's Rathausplatz. One night in June, the then 14-year-old victim came into the shop and asked about the toilet. While the girl was going to the bathroom, the Syrian locked the shop and prevented the girl from leaving the place.

He took her into the kitchen, supposedly to give her something. There he then partially undressed and asked the 14-year-old to engage in sexual acts. Out of fear, she did as she was told. In the act, the defendant also touched the minor underneath the clothing, leaving genetic traces behind. The security precautions have been increased for the process at the youth chamber. The 28-year-old's defense attorney initially provided a different version of the events for her client.

Accordingly, everything happened amicably. A story presiding judge Thomas Emanuel couldn't believe. Among other things, video recordings from the surveillance camera raised doubts about the defendant's portrayal, the judge said. Even before the act, the victim had to suffer psychologically due to his private life circumstances. A testimony in court would have meant an extremely high burden for the young person.

A sister and her mother came to court in their place. The defendant agreed with them on a compensation payment of 7,500 euros. In addition, the 28-year-old took back his embellished version of the incident and, after some hesitation, made a far-reaching confession in court. That was the only reason why he was left with a suspended sentence of two years.
