North Rhine-Westphalian Interior Minister Herbert Reul defends agreement with Ditib

The North Rhine-Westphalian Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) defends his state government and Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) against growing criticism of the recent agreement with the Islamic association Ditib.

Düsseldorf - "On the one hand, Ditib is anything but an organization that I find positive," he told Bild. On the other hand, it is the largest organization. "We need contact persons in the Muslim world here with us. If we want to organize Islamic classes, we need contact persons - and they have to be on the other side." Unfortunately, the majority of Muslims are nowhere organized, said the CDU politician. The state government first made a clear demarcation from Ditib.

"Now the school minister has negotiated and made arrangements where Ditib has made a very specific commitment to the things that are important to us," said Reul. "And I can tell you: If that doesn't work, I'm relatively sure that the school minister will also take the game back."
