Hamburg: Afghan released by the police after injuring four people in knife attack

Hamburg - An Afghan attacked and injured four people in Hamburg with a knife on Sunday evening. Since there were no grounds for detention, the man was released from police custody after initial investigations, the police said.

The suspect had previously got into an argument with the wife of one of the later victims. The 20-year-old Afghan had slightly injured her husband, who was rushing to her aid, with a pocket knife. Three witnesses wanted to overpower the attacker and also suffered superficial cuts and stab wounds. However, they were able to hold the alleged stabber until the officers arrived.

Last week, an Afghan knife stabber killed an Azerbaijani and seriously wounded a German in Greven, North Rhine-Westphalia. The fatal attack was preceded by an argument in a refugee and homeless shelter between the men.
