Poland: Germany does not live up to its leading role in the EU

Against the background of the Russian offensive in eastern Ukraine, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk has called on Germany to act.

Warsaw - The hesitation of the German government is disappointing, he said on Tuesday on RBB Inforadio. He calls for a C, gas and coal embargo as soon as possible - preferably immediately. Ukraine should also get more weapons and concrete prospects for EU membership.

"You have to get rid of this logic that we shouldn't do much now so as not to provoke Russia." Russia is an aggressor and Ukraine is a victim. "We, as the European Union, are also victims because our future security and stability are threatened."

According to the Polish Deputy Foreign Minister, Germany is not living up to its leading role in the EU. "I would expect leading states, especially in a crisis, to be a real leader, a state that makes decisions that other countries follow." Unfortunately, you don't see that in Germany.

However, he is pleased that more and more German politicians are demanding that this responsibility be met. If Ukraine is not helped now, Europe will have to live with the consequences for years.
