Germany: Federal Arbitration Commission rejects Wagenknecht's expulsion from the Left Party

Berlin - The Bundestag member Sahra Wagenknecht remains in the Left Party. The Federal Arbitration Commission has come to the decision that it has not harmed the party, reported Der Spiegel, citing the committee's written justification. It states that the 52-year-old "neither violated the principles nor the order of the party".

Previously, several party members had called for Wagenknecht's expulsion and promoted a corresponding process. They justified their decision due to the publication of her book Die Selbstgerechten ("The Self-Righteous") . In it, the politician spoke out in favor of limiting labor migration, and harshly criticized the identity politics of the left.

Wagenknecht attacks left-wing identity politics
As Wagenknecht wrote in the book: “Identity politics boils down to focusing on ever smaller and ever more bizarre minorities, each finding their identity in some quirk that distinguishes them from, and derives claim from, mainstream society to be a victim.”

The state arbitration commission of the party's North Rhine-Westphalian association had previously rejected Wagenknecht's exclusion. However, they came to the conclusion that the member of parliament had caused "severe damage" to the Left Party. However, the party is also partly to blame for this, since the conflict about Wagenknecht was dragged out.
