Another Muslim riot at an outdoor pool in Berlin: 250 bathers harass police officers

Berlin. Violent clashes broke out again in a Berlin outdoor pool on Sunday: The Columbiabad in Neukölln had to be closed early on Sunday afternoon after children had sprayed a bather. Only last weekend there was a mass brawl with several injuries at another open air pool. In response, the Berlin baths operators had promised increased deployment of security personnel.

According to the police, the dispute in the Columbiabad started around 5:15 p.m. when several children are said to have sprayed a 21-year-old and her companions with water pistols against their will while queuing at the water slide. After that, there was a verbal argument in which an unknown man between the ages of 35 and 40 is said to have interfered.

He, too, is said to have held a water gun directly in front of the 21-year-old's face and pulled the trigger. The woman is said to have spat at him and he hit her in the face with the toy. Rescue workers treated the young woman, whose nose was bleeding profusely after the blow, and found a broken nose. However, she refused treatment in a hospital. The suspect could no longer be located.

Columbiabad in Neukölln: 250 bathers harass the police
While the police were recording the incident, riots are said to have suddenly broken out in the summer swimming pool. Police say the reason is unclear. The police and security staff were harassed by up to 250 bathers. Many bathers would have disregarded the instructions of the outdoor pool staff. The shift manager of the security service then decided to close the pool with immediate effect.

All bathers were therefore asked to leave the premises, which was not followed by all guests. Only with the arrival of other police forces would the situation have calmed down and the pool could have been closed early. The investigations - including dangerous bodily harm and breach of the peace - are ongoing.

The head of the German police union (DPolG) Berlin, Bodo Pfalzgraf, said with regard to the operations in outdoor pools: “If the pools do not assume their responsibility to hire enough security personnel, they should assume the costs of the operation.”
