Germany: Number of naturalizations increases by 20 percent
"In 2021, 19,100 Syrian citizens were naturalized, almost three times as many as in 2020," the agency said in a statement. In addition to Syrians, mostly Turks (12,200) and Romanians (6,900) were naturalised. A quarter of the people already had the citizenship of another EU member state before they were naturalized.
Above all, Syrians who came to Germany in 2015 were naturalized
The high number of Syrians naturalized is related to immigration from the country in 2015 and 2016. "Increasing numbers of naturalizations by Syrian nationals can also be expected in 2022," emphasized the demographers in their statement.
After six years in Germany, Syrian migrants can be naturalized in Germany via an exception – for example through language courses. At the beginning of 2022, more than four times as many Syrians with this length of stay are said to have lived in Germany as in 2021.
