Germany: Saxony's police drive electric cars - but there are no charging stations

Dresden - In the future, Saxony's police officers could use e-cars to hunt criminals. For this purpose, two electric patrol cars from VW will be tested in Dresden for a year. According to the news portal tag24, state police chief Jörg Kubiessa was very open to this. "I'm really excited about the result."

There's just one catch: the law enforcement charging stations aren't strong enough. The test drivers have to use public charging stations. According to the manufacturer, the process takes 35 to 45 minutes for a quick charging station.

At least the fully charged car with the official designation ID.4 has a range of 450 kilometers. But despite a 205 hp engine, a chase on the freeway should be avoided. Because at 160 kilometers per hour it's over. For such operations, the Saxon police will probably continue to use conventional patrol cars, regardless of the outcome of the e-car test phase. They create around 220 kilometers per hour.
