Germany: Syrian refugee stabs employee at the Wuppertal House of Integration

Wuppertal - A 20-year-old Syrian man repeatedly stabbed an employee of the Wuppertal immigration authority with a knife on Thursday. The 25-year-old woman was seriously injured, but her life was not in danger. The crime scene, the Wuppertal House of Integration, is a municipal facility for migration and immigration.

A spokesman for the competent public prosecutor's office told Junge Freiheit that there is currently no information on the possible motive for the crime. The investigations are ongoing. It was recently announced that there were over 4,600 knife attacks in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2021 alone.

Green mayor is 'struck by terrible attack'
The Syrian had previously jumped over the reception counter in the entrance area of the facility and suddenly stabbed the employee. Shortly thereafter, bystanders, including a security guard, held him until police arrived and arrested the perpetrator.

Wuppertal's Lord Mayor Uwe Schneidewind (Greens) was dismayed by the act. "I am very affected by this terrible attack," he told the Bild newspaper. His big thanks go to "the colleagues who intervened courageously and without regard to their own possible danger and overpowered the perpetrator". The mayor will now “do everything to ensure that all colleagues in the House of Integration receive the best possible support in the long term.”

The municipal facility will remain closed for the time being. All employees there are therefore psychologically cared for.
