Multicultural Berlin: more violent clashes in open-air swimming pools

Berlin - Again there were violent clashes among young people in an open-air swimming pool in the capital. A group of four injured a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy during an argument. The latter suffered a laceration on his head, according to the Berlin police.

The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon at a summer swimming pool in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen. Security staff at the outdoor pool initially ended the assault, which police said was continued a little later in a meadow in the area. There, the group of four young men allegedly punched and kicked the 15-year-old boy, a friend of the victim. He then lost consciousness and was treated by a doctor who happened to be there. Rescue workers from the Berlin fire brigade took the two young people to a nearby hospital.

Police forces arrested a 14-year-old from the group of four, who was released a little later. The investigation was ongoing, it said.

Frequent brawls among migrants in Berlin's outdoor pools
In the past few months there have been repeated fights and riots in Berlin's outdoor pools. The police often had to intervene, as in June when about a hundred migrants fought a mass fight.

The German Police Union warns against visiting German outdoor pools. According to the BZ, Berlin's swimming pools spend around 1.5 million euros a year on security measures, including security guards.
