Several people were injured and two killed in a knife attack in the RE 70 from Kiel to Hamburg on Wednesday in the small town of Brokstedt (Schleswig-Holstein).

Immediately after the crime, witnesses managed to hold the suspect until the police arrived at the train station in Brokstedt.

At first it was said that the perpetrator was a man from Syria. According to new Bild information, however, he is a 33-year old Palestinian from Gaza. He had been detained before for criminal and sexual offenses and had been released 6 days ago, after a pretrial imprisonment.

The age could not be read on the fictional certificate, a temporary residence permit, which the perpetrator had with him. Reason: The note was smeared with blood.

Nine ambulances, three emergency doctors and a rescue helicopter from Hamburg are in action. The station was cordoned off extensively. The suspect had injuries to his hands when he was arrested. According to the police, he had inflicted it on himself.

The perpetrator is in the hospital in Neumünster and is being guarded by the police.

"On the train, a 20-30-year-old man stabbed other travelers with a knife. The area of application extends not only to the train but also to the platform. We are currently in the process of getting an overview. We have two dead, three seriously injured and four slightly injured,” said a police spokeswoman.

The police officer continued: “Around 2:55 p.m., a number of emergency calls were received from passengers. We don't yet know how many passengers were on the train, they are now being looked after. We need to get an overview. The identities of the injured and dead have not yet been determined, nor of the perpetrator. The perpetrator is also injured and on his way to the hospital in Neumünster, after which he will be questioned. The police are questioning witnesses here on the ground on a large scale.”

The Minister of the Interior of Schleswig-Holstein, Sabine Sütterlin-Waack (CDU), confirmed the bad incident - she got the message in the state parliament and consulted Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU).

Sütterlin-Waack: "For me it is clear that the horrible act is against all humanity." She was "in her thoughts with the families and relatives of the victims," said the minister. She wishes the injured a speedy recovery. She's on her way to the crime scene.

An eyewitness told Westküstennews: "I was a 1st class passenger on the train. Suddenly, two more passengers ran out with great force. I grabbed my things and ran after them. I then walked through the whole train, there were around four to six cars and there were traces of blood everywhere. I saw a total of five injured being taken away in ambulances.”
