250 celebrities demand social media censorship of ‘misinformation’ about trans drugs, surgeries

(LifeSiteNews) — More than 250 celebrities have signed onto a censorship campaign demanding that social media platforms suppress conservative views on so-called “trans healthcare.

Last week, LGBT media advocacy group GLAAD released a public letter addressed to leaders of major social media corporations, requesting that they “stop the flow of anti-trans hate and malicious disinformation about trans healthcare [sic].” The letter was addressed to Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook and Instagram, Neal Mohan of YouTube, Shou Zi Chew of TikTok and Linda Yaccarino and Elon Musk of Twitter.

Among the signers are singers Demi Lovato and Sam Smith, actresses Ellen Page and Kristin Chenoweth and “trans” influencers Dylan Mulvaney and Jazz Jennings.

“As celebrities, influencers, and prominent public figures with significant followings on social media, we the undersigned are calling on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Twitter to fulfill the promises you’ve made to transgender, nonbinary, gender non-conforming and all [sic] LGBTQ users in your terms of service,” the June 27 letter begins. “There has been a massive systemic failure to prohibit hate, harassment, and malicious anti-LGBTQ [sic] disinformation on your platforms and it must [sic] be addressed.”

The letter claims that conservative views on gender ideology have “directly result[ed] in terrifying real-life harm,” citing a bomb threat that was issued against Boston Children’s Hospital after conservative Twitter account Libs of TikTok exposed the organization’s own videos advertising its practice of committing mutilating “gender reassignment” surgeries on minors. Conservatives who tell the truth about child mutilation under the guise of “affirming” one’s perceived “gender identity” are accused of “hate speech” that is described as “dangerous” in the letter.

“This disinformation and hate, inadequately moderated on your platforms, plays an outsized role in the sharp increase in real-world anti-transgender [sic] targeting and violence,” the celebrities wrote, arguing that medical intervention for gender confusion is a matter of “safety and necessity.” Although “every leading medical and psychological association” has caved to this belief, as the letter states, there is mounting evidence to prove the serious mental and physical health risks of such irreversible actions.

Medical professionals have admitted that puberty blockers are associated with infertility and inhibited bone growth. Similarly, data shows that cross-sex hormone use causes greater risk of heart attack and stroke and can increase suicidality. Both men and women who have undergone so-called “sex reassignment” surgeries later voiced their regret and shared the depression that persisted even after pursuing what LGBT activists claim to be the answer to their problems.

“We call for you to meet with community leaders and creators to hear about these real world harms that result from anti-trans [sic] content on your platforms,” the letter continues, outlining specific demands of the corporate owners. Signatories lay out four areas in which they expect the tech platforms to censor conservative views on transgenderism, beginning with “content that spreads malicious lies and disinformation about medically necessary healthcare for transgender [sic] youth.”

The letter suggests that “mitigations on such disinformation must be developed,” citing that there are similar rules in place for subjects such as elections and COVID-19. Additionally, the celebrities call for action against “accounts and postings that perpetuate anti-LGBTQ extremist hate and disinformation,” including what they describe as “the anti-LGBTQ ‘groomer’ conspiracy theory.”

“Dehumanizing, hateful attacks on prominent transgender [sic] public figures and influencers” and “anti-transgender [sic] hate speech, including targeted misgendering, deadnaming, and hate-driven tropes” are also listed as content in need of suppression. “Misgendering” and “deadnaming” refers to the use of pronouns and names that correspond to one’s biological sex rather than a perceived “gender identity.”

The letter comes amid statewide legislation to protect gender-confused youth from harmful ideologies and a slew of suppression of conservative views on social media platforms. To kick off “pride month” 2023, The Daily Wire planned to stream Matt Walsh’s groundbreaking documentary What Is a Woman? on Twitter for free over 24 hours. Executives initially censored the film due to “misgendering,” only to have Elon Musk correct the “mistake” and endorse the documentary on his own page.

Recent months have also seen revelations of internal communications at Twitter that show that the platform sought to censor conservatives before Musk’s purchase of the corporation. In April, YouTube permanently banned The John-Henry Westen Show along with Westen’s own personal account. Earlier this month, Zuckerberg admitted that Facebook had censored information related to COVID-19 that turned out to be either true or debatable. LifeSiteNews was permanently banned from the platform for spreading so-called COVID misinformation that the corporation no longer deems explicitly false.
