Dresden: Local families have to give way to asylum seekers

A landlord throws several families out of a house because it is supposed to be demolished. But in reality, asylum seekers are accommodated there. The city administration justifies itself and remains silent about the costs.

Dresden - The Dresden city administration has confirmed that an apartment building in Dresden that was previously inhabited by German families will in future only be available to asylum seekers. “The apartments located in the property at Johannes-Brahms-Straße 34” were offered to the state capital Dresden for rent to migrants, a city spokesman told Junge Freiheit.

The residents were thrown out of the house by the landlord ImmPrima in February. “The plan is to demolish the rental property due to its age and poor structural condition compared to normal living conditions.” Instead, the house was then offered to the city of Dresden. The news portal Nius first reported on it.

Total costs declared a secret
The city administration confirmed that a corresponding contract had been concluded for “a basic rent of approximately 9.00 euros per square meter”. “The apartments are currently being prepared. The exact occupancy number will only be determined once this work has been completed.” The rental period was therefore set until December 31, 2024. “An extension beyond 2024 is contractually possible. The state capital of Dresden will coordinate this with the owner again in due course.”

The city did not want to say how much the renovation work would cost or how much tax money would flow to ImmPrima. “In the mutual interest of the contract, no information can be provided regarding further contractual content.”

Dresden always causes a stir with its expensive asylum projects. Most recently, the city rented an all-inclusive home for single men, mostly of military age, in a prime downtown location.
