ASML does not just make chip machines. It makes the machines that make the machines of modern power and when Washington tried to extend its China controls onto Dutch hardware, the Netherlands flew to America and told Congress to back off. 

 

🇳🇱 The Dutch Trade Minister travelled to Washington to warn against the MATCH Act. 

 

⚙️ The bill would restrict Chinese access to ASML’s older DUV lithography systems. 

 

🔬 ASML is the only company on Earth capable of making the most advanced lithography machines. 

 

🇨🇳 China accounts for a major share of ASML’s sales, mostly through older-generation equipment. 

 

🇪🇺 Europe’s leverage is physical: it may not dominate chip manufacturing, but it controls the tools every advanced chipmaker needs. 

 

🤖 ASML’s investments in Mistral and European AI show how semiconductor leverage feeds directly into sovereignty strategy.
