Knife attack in Dresden - suspected Islamist background

After a knife attack on two tourists in Dresden in early October, the investigations apparently lead to the Islamist scene.

Dresden - The arrested suspect has been known to the Saxon security authorities for some time as a violent extremist, Der Spiegel reported on Wednesday on its website. The 20-year-old Syrian is therefore listed as a threat. He is said to have been sentenced to more than two years' imprisonment "some time ago" for instructions on how to commit a serious act of violence that was dangerous to the state.

The alleged perpetrator is said to have attacked two men aged 53 and 55 with a kitchen knife on the evening of October 4th. The 55-year-old died a little later from his injuries. The Syrian was arrested on Tuesday evening.

He is currently in police custody.
