French government wants to dissolve identitarian movement

PARIS. The French government has initiated proceedings against the identity organization Génération Identitaire. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin wrote on Twitter over the weekend that they now have ten days to file an objection. If this does not happen, the group is likely to be disolved in the next 15 days, reported the AFP news agency.

Dermanin had already called for a ban on the Génération Identitaire (GI) more than two weeks ago. Around 30 members of the organization had previously symbolically closed the border on a mountain pass with Spain. Following a campaign by the Australian government, they called for the borders to be closed to illegal immigrants.

The responsible public prosecutor initiated preliminary investigations into "public incitement to racial hatred". She justified this with alleged slogans of hatred against migrants on banners.

"Defend Europe" also in the Alps
The Identitarian Movement had carried out similar actions under the motto “Defend Europe” in the Alps in recent years . For this, too, several members were charged and initially convicted. However, they were acquitted again on appeal in December.

From the GI founded in the early 2000s, the Identitarian Movement of Austria and Germany later emerged. In the past few years you had repeatedly made headlines with actions critical of immigration.
