Russia against "nonsensical race" for new climate goals

Russia's climate commissioner Ruslan Edelgeriev is against entering into a competition for ever more ambitious goals to reduce greenhouse gases. This new international trend is a "nonsensical race for numbers," said Edelgerijew to the Reuters news agency.

This distracts from the fact that concrete results must be achieved. Russia will focus on fulfilling the commitments it has made.

Edelgerijew criticized the EU's proposals to impose CO2 taxes on imports. Only a small number of countries would benefit unfairly from this, he said.
