Turkish foreign minister wants to renew migration pact with EU

In view of the new migration risks and the decline in the pandemic, the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu is calling for the 2016 migration agreement with the EU to be reconsidered and for cooperation to continue.

Ankara - Turkey has fulfilled its obligations under the agreement, Cavusoglu told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Illegal migration via the Aegean to the EU has decreased by 92 percent. Turkey now expects the EU to take concrete steps to fulfill the commitments made to Turkey in 2016.

These include the modernization of the customs union and the liberalization of visa regulations.
