Germany: Underground parking with additional space for gays, lesbians, transgender and migrants

The Hanauer Parkhaus GmbH (HPG) has built three parking spaces for LGBTQs (lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals) and migrants in an underground car park in Hanau city center: the “Diversity” parking lots.

Thomas Morlock, the chairman of the supervisory board of the HPG, said at the inauguration of the places that the aim was to help people who feel “a special need for protection”. But since when is it just a question of origin and sexual orientation?

When asked by Bild, Morlock rowed back. The places are not "for a separate group of people". Rather, they want to set a “conspicuously colorful symbol” for “diversity and tolerance”.
