Germany: AfD warns of left-wing terrorism

Berlin - The AfD has accused the federal and state governments of not taking the danger posed by left-wing extremists seriously. "The federal and state governments apparently do not want to take any effective measures to prevent left-wing extremism from escalating into left-wing terrorism," said AfD member of the Bundestag Martin Hess on Friday to Junge Freiheit. This will not change even under a traffic light coalition, as a look at the coalition agreement shows.

The background to this is the current figures from the Joint Extremism and Terrorism Defense Center (GETZ) in the "Left-wing" category. According to the response from the Federal Ministry of the Interior to a request from the AfD, the security authorities registered 339 violent crimes in the second quarter of this year. Around 60 percent of this could be cleared up.

Violence is directed against the police, hatred against AfD
The majority of the left violence directed against the police. There was also one attempted homicide as well as 63 physical injuries and five arson attacks. More than a third of the acts of violence were directed “against the right”. The security authorities classified 283 acts as extremist.

In the third quarter, the number of acts of violence fell, but so did the clearance rate. Of the 133 registered offenses, 61 (46 percent) were cleared up. Most violent crimes were directed against political opponents. GETZ rated more than 100 as extremist.

According to the Interior Ministry, the authorities counted exactly 400 cases of so-called hate postings in 2019 and 2020. This category was introduced in 2019. Most of the verbal attacks were directed against the AfD.
