Outrage over the election of AfD politicians
First, AfD councilor Robert Schnell was elected the new chairman of the culture committee with votes from the “Bürger für Neubrandenburg” parliamentary group, which consists of former CDU members, and the left. The SPD and the Greens voted against him in an open election. Schnell is the successor to Anni-Claire John (Greens).
In addition, AfD parliamentary group leader Jörg Kracht was elected chairman in a secret ballot in the works committee. He replaced an SPD representative.
30 years cultivated tradition
Now the excitement is great. The deputy state chairman of the Left Party, Peter Ritter, tweeted: "That sucks!" Then he pushed further: "It pisses me off."
The head of the Neubrandenburg Left Party, Toni Jaschinski, explained that his parliamentary group had voted for the AfD representatives because of the 30-year tradition of filling the committees equally according to majorities. They did not want to break through this principle of democracy. Incidentally, no one objected in the deliberations, during which an agreement had been reached in advance on the distribution of the committee chairs.
The SPD, on the other hand, rages and speaks of a "left-right-outside coalition". The shift to the right in the Neubrandenburg city council continues. His parliamentary group finds it “repulsive and frightening as well as humanly disappointing how the Christian Democrats and the left are making themselves into the AfD’s stirrups.” In doing so, they had finally made a “previously unthinkable alliance” public and, quite incidentally, thrown the principles of their own parties overboard.
Diana Kuhk, the leader of the parliamentary group of “Bürger für Neubrandenburg”, accused the SPD of not keeping to agreements. She spoke of "hypocrisy".
