The owners of morality suddenly prefer silence: German Minister of the Interior doesn't think much of a World Cup boycott

Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) spoke out against a boycott of the football World Cup in Qatar.

Berlin - "I don't believe in the boycott because you shift the responsibility of politics to sports," she told the broadcasters RTL and ntv. And the athletes who trained for it for a long time didn't deserve that either. The SPD politician, who also acts as sports minister within the federal government, opposed a party conference decision by the Berlin SPD last December.

The Berlin SPD had called for a boycott of the World Cup at the end of 2022. The state association had approved the application with a large majority of around 80 percent. Faeser announced, however, that she would seek talks with the Qataris before the tournament: "I will fly to Qatar with DFB President Jörg Neundorf before the World Cup to address the issues."
