Corruption allegations against German Vice Chancellor Christian Lindner

Corruption allegations against Vice Chancellor Christian Lindner (FDP): The public prosecutor's office is investigating an official greeting for the private bank that gave him a loan shortly afterwards.

Berlin/Karlsruhe - FDP leader Christian Lindner is threatened with criminal proceedings for taking advantage. The corruption department of Berlin's public prosecutor's office is currently examining whether to apply for the finance minister and vice chancellor's immunity to be lifted in order to be able to investigate him.

In his capacity as a member of the government, Lindner wrote a greeting for a private bank in Karlsruhe, from which he took out the loan for his house purchase. In doing so, he concealed this connection. To make matters worse, according to Der Tagesspiegel, he then took out another loan from the bank.

A spokesman for the Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office emphasized that the examination to lift immunity is "common in such cases, and without a statement being made about the existence of an initial suspicion". A decision on how to proceed will be made promptly.

Lindner: "I didn't have to disclose that"
The investigators are primarily focusing on the second loan granted by BBBank. If this is related to the official greeting, Lindner could have made himself liable to prosecution. However, the criminal offense of accepting an advantage does not require a reference to a specific official act. This is to prevent the mere appearance of venality. Therefore, there could also be investigations into the granting of advantages against those responsible for the bank.

Due to the current development, the FDP politician denied a connection between his real estate financing and the greeting. From his point of view, he was also not obliged to disclose his private business relationship with BBBank in the ministry.
