Berlin: 5-year old girl stabbed to death in park - German-Turkish man is arrested


Berlin - According to the spokesman, passers-by discovered the child lifeless and seriously injured around 5:40 p.m. in the Pankow public park. Resuscitation was unsuccessful. The girl died in the hospital.

As the police spokesman said, the girl's injuries indicated a homicide. A 19-year-old suspect was arrested near the park. The fourth homicide commission took over the investigation.

The man has a connection to the girl, who has German-Polish-Turkish nationality, a police spokesman said late in the evening of the German Press Agency (DPA). According to Tagesspiegel information, the relationship between the victim and the arrested person is still the subject of the investigation.

The police and media initially gave the child's age as four years old, which was later corrected by the police to five years.

In the late evening, a hundred police officers had cordoned off a large area of the park, and the forensic team searched the alleged crime scene with flashlights together with forensic medicine. The technical unit of the Berlin police had also set up a light pole. Officials on the ground told the Tagesspiegel that the measures are expected to last throughout the night.

According to a report by RBB, the police had previously searched for the child with almost 100 emergency services and a helicopter. The five-year-old was last in the "Paule-Park" behind the town hall center in Pankow, which is about 300 meters from the site. Since around 2.45 p.m. there has been no trace of the girl.

According to Tagesspiegel information, the site is near a goat enclosure, which is very popular with families and children.
