Senator conceals terror threat from Brokstedt assassin

The Brokstedt assassin was released despite threatening a terrorist attack in prison. Hamburg's Green Senator for Justice, Gallina, is keeping this secret from Parliament. Not only the AfD calls for consequences.

Hamburg/Brokstedt - A political earthquake is looming in Hamburg in connection with the assassination of the Palestinian Ibrahim A. The asylum seeker had already announced a terrorist attack while in custody, where he was being held for another stabbing. But Justice Senator Anna Gallina (Greens) didn't tell MPs.

During her interrogations in the Hamburg Parliament and in the Judiciary Committee she did not mention a word of it. The statements of the 33-year-old were already known to her at this time. The incident only became public after a request from dpa. According to this, Ibrahim A. said to prison employees in August: "There is not just one Anis Amri, there are several, I am one too." In 2016, Amri killed 13 people and injured 67 with a truck at the Berlin Christmas market.

AfD: "Gallina is a total failure"
The prison staff recorded the threat in a "perception sheet" in the prisoner's personal file of the later offender from Brokstedt. Allegedly, Hamburg's judiciary only became aware of this after the massacre in the regional train. Neither the Senate nor the Office for the Protection of the Constitution forwarded this explosive information to the prison management.

The question is whether A. should have been released at all, whether the two teenagers he killed on the train near Brokstedt could still be alive. Hamburg's AfD faction leader Dirk Nockemann sharply criticizes the justice senator: "Enough! Everything must be on the table. The case of Ibrahim A. is increasingly becoming a failure of the Hamburg judiciary. The green justice senator is a total failure.” During the citizenship meeting, she declared that there had been no mistakes in dealing with Ibrahim A. and that important details had been withheld from the judiciary committee.

Special session on Brokstedt assassin
Nockemann calls for a special session of the Judiciary Committee – as does the CDU. Even the governing parties SPD and Greens now agree. Dennis Thering, CDU faction leader, also demands Gallina's resignation. "If it turns out to be true that Ibrahim A. was able to threaten assassination attempts while in prison and was nevertheless released without consequences, Justice Senator Gallina will finally be dismissed."
