USA Labels Hungarians as a 'National Security Risk', Bans them from Getting Visas

The US is tightening its visa requirements for Hungarian passport holders. The reason is stated to be that a large number of ethnic Hungarians living in other countries have been granted Hungarian citizenship. The Hungarian government accuses Joe Biden of taking “revenge” on Hungarians in this way.

Nearly one million foreigners have been granted Hungarian passports in the past nine years, according to the AP.

These are ethnic Hungarians who live outside Hungary, including in countries such as Serbia and Ukraine.

Against the Hungarian government for some time The US embassy, which has been waging a war of words, says it does not consider these people to be sufficiently verified.

The United States therefore says it considers Hungarian citizens a security risk, and therefore limits their opportunities to obtain visas under the so-called Visa Waiver Program.

Hungary’s Ministry of the Interior accuses Joe Biden’s government of taking “revenge” on Hungarians in this way. According to the ministry, for security reasons, information about Hungarians with dual citizenship who live outside Hungary’s border is not shared.
