Socialist ‘post-election meltdown’ in Argentina has been ‘enormous’: Rita Panahi

Sky News Australia host Rita Panahi says the “post-election meltdown” by Argentinian socialists has been “enormous” after libertarian Javier Milei won the election on Saturday.

Mr Milei was elected as Argentina’s new president after receiving over 55 per cent of the vote in the second round of elections.

He is often compared to former US president Donald Trump and is known for notoriously bringing chainsaws to campaign rallies where he promised to cut state spending.

Mr Milei's election win means it is the second time the Peronist left-wing Justicialist Party will be out of power since 2001.

“The left has just wreaked havoc in that country,” Ms Panahi said

. “It’s once prosperous, now the economy is in ruins – inflation running at between 120 and 150 per cent annually.”
